The Community Health Law Project (CHLP) seeks full-time Staff Attorneys for its Elizabeth, Bloomfield and Neptune offices. The Attorney will provide representation in landlord/tenant matters, public benefits matters, family law matters, consumer issues and guardianships, among other civil legal matters.

CHLP is a New Jersey statewide non-profit organization that provides legal services and advocacy to low-income individuals living with disabilities. Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Paralegal certificate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in advocating for clients in a human services agency a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks independently.
  • Fluency or strong proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain paper case files, including medical evidence, correspondence, and other materials.
  • Represent clients at administrative proceedings such as Social Security and Welfare hearings.
  • Conduct legal and non-legal research to formulate arguments and draft administrative prehearing and post-hearing correspondence/briefs.
  • Assist attorneys with various legal matters such as research and drafting of legal documents.

An attorney with estate planning/administration experience

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in strategy review sessions with our clients to understand the facts and goals to prepare a Case Plan for each client

  • Prepare Family Law documents/pleadings; such as, petitions, responses, judicial forms, summons, declarations and affidavits (client, third party, attorney), divorce decrees, temporary and final orders, parenting plans, child support orders, child support worksheets, motions, replies, mediation and/or trial briefs/letters, trial preparation, etc.
  • Prepare clients for hearings and trials
  • Attend hearings, and trials
  • Communicate with Marble on important case updates

Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience as a family law attorney
